This Substack page features short stories with great character development and detail. Like all good science fiction, there is often a surprising element revealed as an essential key to understanding the action. Very entertaining...
Lynn Childress - who is the Elder Mentor - is a professional author who currently spends much of her time "in residence" at various workshop retreats for writers. She also edits new releases for various publishing houses, and has a long background with the Oxford University Press. Her articles are superb because she has both the writing skills and the lived experiences that allow readers to join with her in the unique adventures of an Oxford graduate student in the 1980s.
I tend to enjoy writers who explore issues of human meaning, psychology, philosophy, politics and so forth. Lisa does this across the board with honesty and integrity. She is building her communications outside the usual realm of Social Media, looking for a more coherent and sustainable approach that is not as motivated by algorithms, clicks and hearts. I look forward to seeing where she goes with all her ideas!
Ivan posts original fiction, essays, and translations of old Russian texts, with an emphasis on writing as an art form. I very much appreciate his commitment to literature, well written, in contrast to the futile search for hearts and clicks that is all but mandatory for online publishers & writers. Ivan's work is highly regarded by other authors - a good sign!
